Mindpearl partners with Siyaya Skills Institute to educate and develop disabled learners in South Africa

Mindpearl and Siyaya Skills Institute, a local professionally-accredited Training Provider, recently embarked on an exciting new partnership to provide learning opportunities to the previously disadvantaged and disabled in and around Cape Town, South Africa.

With the unemployment rate in South Africa increasing to 26.4% in the first quarter of 2015, Mindpearl recognised that partnering with such an accredited and well recognised institute would be a step in the right direction in assisting to decrease the unemployment rate.

30 learners were identified to complete a GETC (General Education and Training Certificate) by enrolling in the ABET (Adult Basic Education and Training) program over the next year. These learners, in addition to completing the program, are also supported through the Siyaya Disability Management program, further helping them in their skills development and therefore affording them better opportunities.

The ABET program is identified as a critical priority in South Africa and plays a vital role in equipping adult learners with the necessary knowledge, skills and values in order to be functional both in society and as a person, by contributing to the workforce, community and economy. This GETC: ABET Qualification provides learners with foundational learning through the acquisition of knowledge and skills needed for social and economic development and the promotion of justice and equality. It also seeks to promote and instil learners with a culture of life-long learning. Learners are also able to acquire the necessary competencies in order to access further education, career development and employment opportunities.
